Who Would YOU Choose?

A weekend question for everybody:

You have the chance to enter the holodeck and have dinner with any four people. Who would you choose and why?

Here are my choices:

Virginia Woolf: I would love to ask her about the unique style of writing she had.

David Niven: This English actor told many anecdotes about how Hollywood was in the early days. He would liven any dinner party.

Nicole Kidman: My favourite actress; I have six DVDs of her films: Bangkok Hilton, The Others, Dogville, The Hours, Cold Mountain and Birth.

Michaelangelo: His great works of art and sculpture are fascinating. Just who is the figure in 'The Last Supper?

Well, it's over to you......

And an interesting question that is too...

Here's my first thoughts...

Mikhail Gorbachev - for the global political view, with wit

Stephen Fry (English writer, actor, etc) - for the entertainingly wordy and thoughtful view

Spike Milligan (English/Irish, writer, comedian) - for the fine line between madness and genius view

Barry Humphries (actor, comedian, aka Dame Edna Everage) - a good anecdotalist (cf. autobiography 'My Life as Me')

An all-boys affair, but I can live with that.
Would be interested to hear your views on the starry whatnot on my blog.

Good day to you and the crew.
Was here from Michele Agnew's site.

Mine are not as deep as everyone else's. I am just looking for hot boys to have dinner (and who knows what else?) with:1. Jon Bon Jovi because I am a Jersey Girl so he is my dream man (next to you, of course, Captain).2. Billy Lane of Choppers Inc. because he is a total biker stud and I love dirty men.3. Keanu Reeves (from the "Speed" days) because did you get a good look at his body???4. Rushed off for coffee and time went by but I am back to list my four people. My choices are no longer alive so hope that is okay. I think this group would make for some lively conversation.1. Mother Mary Jones, because I have always been involved with unions and I admire her work to change child labor laws2. Mother Theresa for her work with the poor.3. Susan B. Anthony for her feminist views.4.Golda Meir for her work toward peace in the Middle EastMaria Morris-Burke | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 1:54 am | #
Jesus is a no brainer for me. I think I'd add Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, and Edward Cayce. What a philosophical debate we could have! And then...just because I'm a very bad girl, I'd sneak Master Yoda in for the party. Oh and you too Captain. You can bring the Saurian Brandy and Cardassian Ale.Sirenfyre | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 5:05 am | #

Hmmm, this is a really good question. Only 4?OK. Off the top of my head . . . a politician, a rockstar, a comedian and an actor. 1. Peter Garrett, former lead singer with Midnight Oil, now Labour politician. In the past he's been the president of the Australian Conservation Foundation and served on council of Greenpeace. He is always outspoken, particularly on green issues and aboriginal land rights.2. Bono. I have a love/hate relationship with the man, but he'd be pretty entertaining and there's a few questions I'd like to put to him such as "why are you so chummy with Tony Blair?" and "if U2 hasn't sold out, why did you agree to do the iPod thing?"3. Matt Lucas. Adorable, baby-faced British comedian with a great sense of the absurd. 4. Jane Fonda. I saw her interviewed on TV the other night and I admired her get-up-and-go attitude, her willingness to fight for a cause.kimbofo | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 3:25 pm | #
omigod...I swear I was going to say Jane Fonda. Also Rumi. Have to think more about this. Hey, I have a camper named the Starship Enterprise.colleen | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 4:17 pm | #
Interesting question....I guess I would want:John Mellencamp because I count how many times I hear Jack & Diane on the radio, and he might want to hear how nutty that is.Andre Agassi because I'd want to discuss tennis with him.My Hubby, because I'd need some help with the whole holodeck thingy, and he's an expert. And we'd better have another girl there, so I'd ask my best friend Kelly, because that way I wouldn't have to reiterate the whole conversation to her later.Indigo | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 4:48 pm | #
okay... i'm quite lucid now so i'll answer this one properly.1. Robin Williams - that's a guarantee that you'll be laughing all throughout dinner2. Oprah - 'coz i'm sure the conversation would be interesting3. Pablo Neruda - one of my fave poets!4. Hugh Jackman - you knew this was coming he's for eye candy!xtessa | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 6:05 pm | #
There are some really great answers here like Hugh Jackman (Definite EYECANDY!) and David Boreanez - hellllooooooo, can anyone say Buffyphile? Yes, I am part of the Buffy/Angel fan club. My top four would be:1. Jesus, b/c I'd love to hear the words from the Master Himself.2. John, the apostle who wrote the book of Revelation. I would love to hear it directly from him and try to figure out some things that are still left open for literal or figurative interpretation.3. Stephen King. Being a writer myself, I would LOVE to just pick his brain and see what makes him tick. I've read interviews and he is an exteremely fascinating person.4. Laura Bush. I used to work with a woman who is one of her best friends and who had the funniest stories to tell about her. Plus she is warm and gracious and intelligent and would be the perfect dinner guest for any meal. Oh, and I would ask her what the heck does George think he is doing with the whole Israel/Palistinian thing? Doesn't he know that b/c of that issue he is isolating and disappointing a BUNCH of us who voted for him?Nic | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 6:33 pm | #
Hey Cap'n. Great to see you again. Here from Michele's, but this is a quadrant I'm going to enjoy exploring on my own as well.Carmi | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 6:34 pm | #
I have thought deeply and contemplated completely, I would enjoy having dinner with these four men:1. King Richard -- The Lion Heart himself.2. Ebenezer Scrooge -- to understand his complex character and how he learned to love giving.3. King Henry II -- To understand the complex man and the trials of his life.4. Professor Charles Xavier -- the Earth;s formost authority on mutants.Jon, Intergalactic Gladiator | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 6:39 pm | #

Stopping by to say hello...Ohh, a question, I love questions. Does this surprise you?My random choices:William Shakespeare: because he is William Shakespeare.Toni Morrison: I met her once and became instantly smitten with this woman...I have always been smitten with her writing.Martin Luther King Jr.: His "I have a dream" speech inspired me to become a political speechwriter. Shirin Ebadi: I so greatly admire her efforts for democracy and human rights. There are many, oh-so-many more. May I borrow some chairs from my neighbour so that I can invite others? Now, I must get busy planning a menu for my listed guests...but first I shall blogroll youMichele | Homepage | 5th Jun 2005 - 6:57 pm | #

Hey JL, the new comment section is nice and all, but you lost all of the previous comments. Should I be concerned? Is it a conspiracy?Jon, Intergalactic Gladiator | Homepage | 6th Jun 2005 - 2:51 am | #
only 4? Let's see...J.R.R. Tolkien: The man was brilliant, but hated attention, not to mention he was a nature lover! I'd love to talk to him.Yoda: How can you NOT want to talk to him? He's just so cool! Robin Williams: The man is HILLARIOUS!Rebecca Hopper: My best funny as anyone you'll ever an immature way. We'd have so much fun!Monkey Queen | 6th Jun 2005 - 7:01 am | #
Great choices everyone. Well done in your fine answers.Jon, I'm sorry that I destroyed the earlier answers. I don't know how to revert to the way things were.Jean-Luc Picard | Homepage | 6th Jun 2005 - 6:28 pm | #
I think it's a conspiracy, like that one time where the admirals were conspiring to take over Star Fleet, but the aliens in the backs of their necks were the true conspirators. What was the name of that episode?Jon, Intergalactic Gladiator | Homepage | 6th Jun 2005 - 9:52 pm | #

Dear Captain Jean-Luc Picard:

1. Xenia Onatopp was not a fem-bot but a real woman.
2. Here are my four people i would have dinner with:

All of these obviously in their younger years of course.

Catherine I (Russian Empress)
Marylin Monroe (to Go home with)
Cleopatra (To Join Marylin and I)
Martina Hingis (frm German Tennis star)

Tim Raborne (middle e. drums)
Ricky Martin
Django Reinhardt (virtuoso guitarist)
Cheb Mami

might make some interesting jam session of music together. It's interesting to see what chemistry would happen as they make and talk music thru Holodeck translation.

Oh, and hello, Michele sent me and I keep coming back your intriguing space Captain. :-)

Thanks for the comments, wookiehobbit & Pearl.

Margaret, who is Patrick Stewart?

RenaSherwood said...

Yeah, I'd have Patrick Stewart, too. He knows a lot about Shakespeare, Captain.

Gotta have Peter Gabriel. He's a hoot. Have to be a veggie menu, though.

My dog. She's the best conversationalist I ever met. And she doesn't drool too much

And you, Captain. Of course!
