TWQ: Albums Played Only Once

We all remember most of the music albums we buy, but some of them are just so bad or disappointing, we never play them again, so they just gather dust. Today, TWQ (The Weekend Question) asks about those.

Which music albums have you found to be very disappointing when you played them, so that you never played them again, or very rarely?

My answers are:

Clock Without Hands by Nanci Griffith: The title track was rather good, but apart from that the rest of the album is below Nanci's usual standard. As I have been to 3 concerts and have other albums, this fell short of the usual.

Love Scenes by Beverley Craven: After a promising first album, I was looking forward to this, only to find it consisted of Beverley singing a few tinkling songs of no distinction or quality.

Now it's over to you...

But before I go...

Today is the 99th TWQ in the series. Make sure you visit next week for the special 100th!

The Raconteurs: album "Broken Boy Soldiers" - I liked Steady as She Goes, but that's all to like.

Joan Osborne: album "Relish" - only St.Teresa is good.

Sadly, being impulsive, my house is full of albums only listened to once.

On the other side of the coin, I have albums I bought on the strength of one song, which I have adored and listen to constantly.....

Michele sent me to see your TWQ again this week, Jean-Luc :-)

The Cardigans Album called Gran Turismo.

I loved the track that everyone knows, My favourite game, but found the rest of the LP a disappointment.

I don't suppose they are called LPs anymore?

Good morning from Michele's. I haven't ever bought a CD I didn't enjoy, but I got a few that I'm pretty sure were "re-gifted." And I understand why.

Oh, by the way. This is the first time I've answered a TWQ, but I'll be sure to return next week.

I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got by Sinéad O'Connor. I thought i would love this album, but none of the songs compared to the hit song on the album "Nothing Compares 2 U".

I forgot it so quickly that I don't even remember the title.

It was a Phil Collins disk. I didn't even buy it. Rather, it was a gift from my in-laws. Their intentions were in the right place, but I've always hated Mr. Collins's music as the worst example of generic pop one can imagine.

Just thinking about it makes me want to take a nap. Time to crank up some Delerium.

When I first purchased a Richard Shindell CD I was underwhelmed and gave it to a friend. Then I saw him live and my mind was completely changed--so I had to buy it again.

here from Michele's.

I don't buy enough albums to have an opinion on this one, but I did recently buy a Seinfeld season on sale only to realize that NONE of my favorite episodes were on it--so back it went.

Here from M.

There was one song by The Living End that I liked so I got the CD. I don't think I listened to it more than once or twice though.

Despite that, I have to give them their props for being a punk band with a stand up bass. How cool is that?

I can think of 2 right off the top of my head:

Duran Duran's Thank You. It was a covers album and it was vile, I still can't listen to it.

Elvis Costello's North. It's more that it's not his usual style. It's jazzy and it takes some getting used to it. I've been listening to it more and more lately.

Have a great weekend :)

I'm sure there must be at least one, but I can't think of it at the moment.

Yeah, I'm a loser--I buy my songs one at a time and pretty much the "oldies" from the 70s and 80s--I think it's a mid-life thing!

Bee, I thought they were still called albums. What else are they?

Most of the releases mentioned above I've never heard of, so it must show they wern't too popular with others either!

"Cry" by Faith Hill comes readily to mind. Bought it for the title song and thought the rest of it was pretty bad.

I have a large collection of CDs and I'm sure that there are many more in there that fit this category but that would make for a longer comment than there is post!

Looking forward to next week's special 100th TWQ!

This used to happen to me all the time. Now I just use iTunes store and listen to the preview so I know what I am getting, then buy the individual song.
There have been so many one hit albums (yep, that is still what you call them) in my music collection that I was forced to give them away as gifts and sell them at Garbage(not garage) sales.
Looking forward to next week's question!

Oh my gosh, there are so many on my list that I don't even know where to start. Probably some one-hit wonder. That's why I love iTunes - I can buy just that one hit and save the rest of my money!

Michele sent me today. Congrats on your 99th TWQ!

I got a new Bruce Springsteen one and didn't care for it after one listen.

Hell, I haven't bought an actual album in nearly a decade -- I've converted entirely to mp3's and two Ipods (30GB and Shuffle) and I only get individual songs rather than albums.

So the last album I only played once was probably some time back in the early 1990's -- wow, that's scary -- and I don't remember what it was.

I've purchased one or two American Idol albums that were not exciting.

Off habd I cannot think of the name of an album like that---there have been too many...(LOL)...So ONE does not stand out. But I don't buy as many CD's anymore...and what I do buy usually becomes a staple of sorts...!

Clay Aiken.....with whatever that album was called.

Hmm...good question. I don't really remember!
