TWQ: Impolite People

This week's TWQ (The Weekend Question) asks about your experiences with impolite people.

What difficulties have you had with rude and impolite people or with their children?

My answer is:

The best story I can remember is when on a flight back home from Russia, some French people all pushed their way in front of us in the queue out. One of our party had a real row with one of them. I would have joined the woman in supporting her, but felt gruesome at the time. The French eventually mumbled and grudgingly went to the back of the queue.

Now it's over to you...

i usually make a comment like "oh the poor thing just wasn't taught any manners. too bad. must have had horrible parents." THAT usually hits them! ha ha ha

If you want rude people then try being a 911 dispatcher for awhile as I get lots and lots of calls from rude people who simply want to scream at me about quit asking stupid questions and just get the blankety-blank-blank ambulance there. What they don't realize is that the "stupid questions" are designed to send them the proper level of service as there is a big difference between a sprained ankle and difficulty breathing. Idiots.

i just find in general people are rude, like when you go shopping, the person in front of you would rather let the door slam shut then hold it open for you, everyone seems so self absorbed in their own little worlds.

I'm still reeling from it!

The worst thing about dealing with rude people is when they think they're in the right. Like it's their perogative to annoy and inconvenience everyone around them.

I am married to a french man and constantly remind him not to push through people .. must be a french thing as they all do it in Paris :P

most rude:
#1 Went to a sight seeing place in France I had to pee and needed a drink and so did my mom and sister
Since my mom has asthma I wanted the non smoking section

I try to ask the woman and she screamed we are not a public bathroom

(no they were a restaurant)

I then made a scene about being rude and ask customers outside if they knew of a restaurant that wasn't rude to potential costumers

#2
I don't mind letting an elderly woman a head of me when in line but

I was in line for 1 hour let an 80 year old woman who could barely stand a head of me and a 50 yr old stepped in front of me

I was fresh out of the hospital and not feeling to hot and had a fit about it

I talk to a lot of customers on the phone. And probably 99% of them are incredibly nice and understanding with issues (I work as a server admin).

There are a few, however, that think they know more than anyone else on how servers and the internet work and are just totally rude.

I find this doubly true when they are on the phone because there is an element of anonymity involved with that mode of communication. I've been told I was stupid, ignorant, and "just not technical enough."

Depending on the situation, I can talk them down to a reasonable tone so we can solve the problem, or I can put them off so the problem can be "researched" by our "senior technician." If I have to resort to the "senior technician" line, then they normally get put off for hours, or even days, depending on how bad the problem really is.

They also gain a place of honor in my "Ashes of Problem Customers" pottery jar that sits on my desk (write their name on a piece of paper, crumple it up and drop it in there).

:D

Ooof, I'd say that unless I think they are rude they aren't. LOL I've been really trying to be more aware of my judging folks... tough!

Some great stories there!

Nepharia, I love your 'Ashes of Promblem Customers'. It's a solution we should all try.

Novy, you've had a lot of rude people!

Jon, that is true...they do think they are right.

Linda, I can well believe you've come across a few rude people!

Chrissea, I'll look at that later.

I received a lovely hand gesture from a driver on the freeway as I drove to my dad's casket viewing a few years ago. I probably wasn't in a hurry to get there, was probably crying a little... I remember thinking, "if you only knew." That was kind of the "ultimate" for me.
