TWQ: Unusual White House Occupants

There are three matters to mention in a packed TWQ (The Weekend Question) this weekend.

1: Regular TWQ

2: A link to a joint story written by
Padme Amidala and myself.

3: Early alert as to the Enterprise Christmas Party.

Firstly, the TWQ:

As the mid-terms have just been carried out in the USA, are there any unusual people you think might do a good job as President. Say why.

Here are my answers:

1: Superman: Here is someone who would do a good job, with his slogan of 'Truth, Justice and the American Way'. Lois Lane would be a good First Lady as well. It might be a good idea to line the White House walls with lead, though, just in case kryptonite was around.

2: Dr Hank McCoy (Beast): As we saw in 'X3', he is a great diplomat, but also tough when it needs to be.

3: Logan (Wolverine): for those who want to dispense with diplomacy, and want a straight-talking President, this is the man for you!

Now it's over to you....

Secondly, there is a joint story co-written by Padme Amidala and myself. Here is how it starts:

Data alerted me as soon as I arrived on the Bridge.

"There is a message for you on the Starfleet Emergency Channel" he said.

"Who is it from?" I asked.

"I do not know; it is strictly classified, and the indentity of the sender is only meant to be known by you, Captain."

Starfleet secrecy; always keeping things to themselves, even if it's just to tell us when the next Captain's conference is."

I went into my Ready Room and turn on the monitor; naturally, I had to say the codewords; woe betide if ever I forgot them.

A face appears on the screen; it was a young woman.

"Hello Jean-Luc."

"Senator Padme Amidala!" I exclaim, "What a pleasure it is to hear from you again; how are you?"

At this question, she is a little hesitant.

"Jean-Luc, I need to speak with you privately" Padme says quietly, "Can you meet on the third planet in the Balar Sector?"

"That is a long way away, Padme; can't you tell me here?

"No!" she replies quickly, "I need to talk to you face to face. Something has happened and I need your advice, Jean-Luc."

"Of course, Padme" I say gently, "You know you can always rely on me."

"Thank you, Jean-Luc." Padme sighs with relief.

I switch the monitor off and go to the Bridge.

"Number One, you will look after the Enterprise for a short while soon." I say, "I have been called on an urgent mission."

"Where to?" he asks.

"I can't say, except that it is highly classified."

After taking the Enterprise part of the way, I get on a shuttle to the third planet. It is a barren, lifeless planet. I take it down to the area where Padme asked me to be.

As I walk from the shuttle, I see her approach me.

"Hello Padme" I say with a smile.

"Jean-Luc!" She cries out in relief, "I so need to talk to you!"

The rest of it was co-written on Just Padme (9th November).

Thirdly, I want to alert you that later this coming week, the Official Enterprise Party Invitation will be going out. You will be asked to submit you account of what happened to you at the party. Remember to use characters that appear, plus some from the blogroll that might also submit theirs. More details will be seen when the Invitation goes out!

Get your thinking caps on!

Here in Australia there is a big push to have rockstar-turned-labor politician Peter Garrett, former front man of the awesome band Midnight Oil, to be elected as our next prime minister... but he could probably do some good for you guys too... even though he's not an american national, but then again neither is superman... he was born on Krypton.
Give the Terminator a go. He couldn't do worse than Bush!

Michele sent me over, Captain.

The mid-terms have been quite interesting here. Since I identify more with the Democrats than the Republicans I have really been happy these past few days. As for the presidential election in two years, I just don't know. Despite being a dick I think Kerry would make a good president. But you asked for someone "unusual" so my nomination is Kevin Costner. He's got the looks and being an actor seems to be a help in politics these days. The thinking stuff can be done by advisors--there's precedent for that. After all, George W has done it that way for the past 6 years and Ronald Reagan... just as much.

i stay out of us politics, even though they do have a huge impact on my country, we have enough problems with our own morons.

The Mistress of the Dark said...

Dr. Gregory House! Actually anyone that's not W might be good in my book.

Here via Michele's to say hi today.

Anonymous said...

Ditto mistress of the dark.... anyone other than W is just fine with me.

I did live in MN during the Jesse "the Body" Ventura's term and though he was a complete ass most of the time, he was a pretty good governor. Not sure if I'd like to see him sitting in the Oval Office, but really, he can't be any worse than the current President.

Here from Michele.

I am all for Wolverine! Yep all over that one! I could live with the razor knuckles for a moment of Wolverine! He would be a passionate leader.

Bob-kat said...

Hi, I'm here from Michele's.
I am all for Wolverine too - at least you'd know where you stand. I'd also like the 60's Batman - if nothing else his speeches would be hilarious!!!

I think the US needs a Wonderwoman in the White House! A woman would be less of a war-monger and attempt peaceful ways of conflict resolution.

P.S. I don't think Nancy Pelosi can handle it....LOL

Michele sent me!

Moogie said...

Heh..Wonderwoman might to the trick. :)

I still shudder when I think of Hillary even making a run for it.

Michele sent me. Have a wonderful day!

Well, what about Jeff Tracy from International Rescue (Thunderbirds). He's used to organising, delegating and he's interested in the welfare of others...might have been more helpful with hurrican situation in New Orleans.

or Papa Smurf 'cause he's blue, has a beard and is Smurfy.

I think Kermit would make an excellent President - look how he copes with the madness backstage at the Muppetshow??

And Miss Piggy would be dee-vine as the First Lady :-)

Michele sent me today, J-L.

Bush's dog Barney may make a better job of running things and since Bush dropped Barney I think he turned Democrat too

And Hiya - Michele sent me!

ps count me in for the party!!

Michele said...

Actually, I am quite fond of the Superman suggestion. In fact, a politician (any politician) that embraced and administered truth might indeed be a superhero.

However, I would like Morgan Freeman to do the Presidential voice-overs.

Superman and Mr. Freeman: The White House Redemption.

Now, I am off to read the second-half of the story....

Oh, by-the-way, "Michele sent me." Ah, but you knew that, didn't you?

Hi :) Michele sent me today, but I've been here before :)

Barbara said...

I always think Oprah would do a good job as president.

OldOldLady Of The Hills said...

Barbara took the wireds right out of my mouth...My vote goes to Oprah, too!

Ellee said...

It's definitely time for a woman. Perhaps Oprah would be good, she is tuned in to the feelings of her nation.

And I would love an invitation to the Enterprise party, Padme looks stunning, a real space trooper!

Shoshana said...

Ohhh, my husband is a Trekkie fun. I am having him visit your blog later.

Vampirella said...

oh can I go this year... also post about the xmas party on HU blog :) I just love xmas with the enterprise

Chris W. said...

I couldn't think of any other "unusual choices" for our US Prez, so I went back in movie memory lane. I thought of "Deep Impact" and Morgan Freeman playing the President. I'd vote for that character (hell, maybe even the actor portraying him!) in a heartbeat! Whaddya think?

Cheers! (Can I have an invite, too? Please...?)

Lahdeedah said...

Seriously, he can be elected as Peter Parker and be all diplomatic, then, he can turn into Spiderman and handle our foreign policy all sneaky. "Oh Iran, they no longer have the materials necessary to make the bomb. It was stolen..."

Professor X of course. Telepathy. No one could lie. Make congressional hearings go easier.

Winnie the Pooh. Not very diplomatic, but he does make everyone feel better.

Professor Xavier said...

I knew you and Padme had something going on during Last Gladiator Standing.

As far as President - I vote Picard. A natural leader who weighs his decisions and has the respect of his people.

Or Howard the Duck. In fact I think I might write him in for 2008. He's the All-Nite Party canidate.

Jaime H. said...

For President:

David Palmer, former (and assassinated) President on the tv show 24. He always told the truth and did the right thing, even when it meant he might take the fall. Even fictional and dead, he has to be better than W.

I love the idea of Kermit as president.

You do give very good advice, Captain.

Anonymous said...

Hmmmm...I'm so sick of politicians right now, I could puke. I like W as president, too...Winnie the Pooh, that is.
Did someone say party? :-)

Jon the Intergalactic Gladiator said...

Clearly Wile E. Coypte would make a great president and there are two very good reason why:

1. He's a super genius, not just a regular genius, mind you, a super genius.

2. He couldn't be any worse than what we;ve had in there for the past couple of decades.

Jean-Luc Picard said...

You're giving some excellent Presidential suggestions. There are a few that seem very popular amongst you.

As for the party invite, look in on Thursday night, Friday and the weekend. It will be there then.

OldOldLady Of The Hills said...

Michele sent me back here this morning and truthfully, the only person I think would make a really good President is still Oprah! (Though I read somewhere where SHE didn't hink she would be a good President...What does she know??? (lol)

Bob-kat said...

hi, Michele sent me bak today! Been thinking about your President question and I really think it should be anyone who doesn't nwat to be President! That way at least they're not in it for the power trip.

mrsmogul said...

I remember this party thing last year..HOLY KLING ON! Has it been a year since the last invitation!?

My vote for PRESIDENT WOULD BE OPRAH. She really is an inspiration. She can really affect the masses. A lot of people don't like her but that's because they never watched her shows. (hey I just scrolled up and there is another OPPIE SHOUT OUT!)

I then vote for Vice President, Ricky Gervais and Borat in their somewhere too!

Theo said...

every visit i make here makes me even more impressed on how total this world of yours has become...what a wonderful excape!

Hi Michele sent me over today!

Paige said...

Hi ya, Jean, hows it going. I see you are up to the holidays.
Here by way of Michele's today-Happy weekend & week to come!

Carmi said...

I would push for Tom Cruise for president. Sofa sales would go through the roof!

You have a wonderful way of looking at the world through fresh-colored glasses. I love reading your work and thinking about what it all means - it's why I loved watching Star Trek as a kid and still do today.

Hi from Michele.

mar said...

Bree from Desperate Housewives...she knows how to have everything in place at the right time! happy sunday, Michele sent me :)

panthergirl said...

Who would make a good President... hmmm...

I think Steve Carrell's character in "the Office"!!

here via michele!

Darth Nepharia said...

As far as any unusual people that would do a good job as President, that is a tough one. I think setting up a totalitarian government under the Sith would work and I would be more than happy to help set that up.

Now, excuse me while I go pull out my formal clothes and have them cleaned before the Christmas party.

Local Henchmen 432 said...

Party? I think Captain Amercia would make a great Pres.

Ellee said...

Captain Picard, I wonder if you have booked up for this space flight? As you see, another blogger is trying to get me on board, what do you think?

Paperback Writer said...

Oh, goodness, Captain! An assignment! I hope you're not going to ask me this during the month of November! I might implode!

Oh, and I think Jon Stewart would make a great president. He's intelligent and seems to be in touch with the common man.

Meow said...

Hmmm, not really sure, but I wouldn't be voting for Mel Gibson, that's for sure. He has so little tact ... but then, that's normal for a president, isn't it !?!?
Have a great week.
Take care, Meow
