TWQ (The Weekend Question) takes a look back to a memorable time:
What was your last day at school like; what did you do?
My answer is:
The school itself, did nothing to make it a memorable occasion. The pupils moved from class to class, sat around talking to each other, as there were no teachers. On one occasion, I played my taped copy of Hey Jude, with was enjoyed by all. As it got near the end of the day, we wished each other well. Some were staying on for A Levels (Advanced Study courses) and would still be there. After that, I walked out of the gate, knowing that an era was ending. That school has now been demolished in about 2001, and is now wasteground.
Now it's over to you.
I shall be heading for some Shore Leave, and will be returning on Wednesday.
Also, before you go...
Don't forget, if you want to join The Federation and be on my map, look and the right side of my Journal.

Strangely, "last day of school" is more of a concept, because in the last year of 'British' school there's a progressive drifting into other things as the exams finish.
Everyone is already into other things by that stage and the affinity groups continue to meet in any case. As Americans call uni 'School' too its even more vague there, I suppose.
But in the school of life I suppose the last day of learning would be terminal.
Here, today, via Michele's.
Wooooow....
Interesting....
CONgrats on Blogs of Note ! I;ll stick my stamp on the map CAPTAIN!
Hi from Michele's.
I don't remember my last day of school as being very eventful.
Have a safe trip and happy return.
I didn't really have a last day at school....
I was at school and miserable on the Friday. Friday night I bought a local paper, found a job, phoned on Saturday, interviewed on Sunday and started on Monday...
poof! no more school.....
And excellent way of doing it, if I say so myself....

Michele sent me this time, Jean-Luc!
It was sad because many of my classmates were going to start working in far away places. At that time there were no cell phones and internet so we had to rely on snail mail.
This question made me nostalgic.
pretty similar and as non eventful as your. i remember a few people writing on each others shirts, but i didn't really care about it enough to bother.
i do however remember going to see my art teacher to ask him for the last time to sign as a reference for my place at art school and he said no. he refused to help and said why bother as we'd all end up working in tescos anyway.
i quite enjoyed it as it gave me an excuse to call him a tosser and know noone could do anything about it!
i'd been accepted anyway.
interesting to think back. so glad i'm no linger a teenager!
hope you had a great shore leave.

My last day of Nurse Anesthesia school was anticlimatic. Just lots of paperwork and getting ready to move to my next Air Force assignment.
Michele sent me.
COOL BLOG, I LOVE STAR TREK!
AND I LOVE SPACE, FOREVER!
Why dont you have stardates?
Here from Michele.
It depends on which school.
College is still there, got married the next day... that was a mistake.
Med School - still there cranking out the suckers.
High School - it was borderline condemned before graduation. I haven't been back, as I'm not much for reunions. (There weren't any of the people I cared that much for at the time, nevermind 35 years later.) It was torn down and I have no idea what is there now.
Here from Michele.
Hmmm....don't remember any of the last days of school. University was uneventful because I didn't stick around for commencement and I knew I still had some units to complete. High school, well, that was over 20 years ago, I can't remember what I had for breakfast, so that one is beyond my reach.
Here from Michele's.
Well, I'm one of those eternal students, so I may never have a last day at school!
You didn't stay for A-Level classes?
Like others, it depends which school. Elementary last days were the best...always had a party and generally whooped it up for the entire day.
Here by way of Michele! Enjoy shore leave!
I just stumbled on your blog. I love it. Since the demise of the Star Trek: NG series, I'll look to your blog for my fix. Keep it up.
Well it was all fun and games....we only went a half day....so we did nothing but cut up...and have fun!!!
Have a great day!!!
Gosh, CELEBRATE. Couldn't wait for the last day of school. There was always the buildup though but usually in the last weeks and finally the last day. That was a long time ago!
like most of us, my last day was pretty boring. i think i had to go fight with the registrar about a bill (i'd paid, they said i didn't). but, i do remember it being sunny and enjoying the trees.
thanks for visiting (and complimenting) my blog, cap'n! and hope your shore leave is more satisfying than a trip to risa!
I don't remember my last day of high school. I barely remeber graduation LOL I know we celebrated out of school - so the last day wasn't much.
In order to deal with rampant senior cutting, my school required all the students to just do various volunteer work for the last month. For my last days I therefore read plays to the blind and helped some special ed kids stage Grease.
don't it melt my nuts man
If you have cable you can see Star Trek:NG,Deep Space Nine, Star Trek, and Enterprise. There is also a new movie in the works. Check out the web sites. I believe I read about it at SciFi.com. Great site.
I have totally touched women all over. This blog is cool, but I have a question. Maybe I am unfamiliar with your rules, or backstory, Jean Luc, but how could you have gone to school before 2001? You live in the 24th century. There must be some sort of temporal rift behind this.
This is a story about American High School, for all you across the globe.
I had decided for weeks earlier to play One Too Many Mornings by the Chemical Brothers on my boombox as I get ready for school. I hated getting up for school. Now I hate getting up for work. Me and two former friends wore T-shirts we had made to piss off the art teacher. They said “Neo Symbolism” on them. It was an art movement we invented and had written on the board in chalk. He got really mad about if for some reason. He ignored the shirts in the morning class we had with him. I was a student assistant with him at the end of the day during his “planning period” so it was then that he asked me what the shirts were all about. But they were just about trying to annoy him and be funny. He said it was funny we had T-shirts made for that purpose, because he wasn't mad about Neo Symbolism, he was mad we were being idiots at the time. I think he let me leave to my car or maybe not. A lot of people hooted and honked. The best part was that we got out a week earlier than the underclassmen.
My last day of Jr. high (8th grade), I threw an old science book (soon we will land on the moon!) that the science teacher gave us into a swimming pool. Kind of dumb when I think about it.
Oh my lst day of school...i seemed so long ago. As far as I remember it was a hot summer day in the middle east, everyone was happy because they finished there exams and were celebrating, as for me, I was pre occupied on my flight to canada the next day.
I still had a BBQ and we had a blast.
Such nice memories.
By the way, if you guys like to know what's the life of an engineer professional poker player that wants to go to B school...don't forget to check me out at

salut jean-luc et toute le monde de star trek: tng .. tu nous manques bien ..
Our last day of school was only like, an hour long...we basically sat in homeroom for the entire time. The last day of senior year, our teacher got us pizzas. It was cool. It was the most fun I'd ever had on the last day of school.
Congrats on being a blogger of note Jean-Luc! :)
I joined the Federation.
I just finished my last day of classes this past week, my last as an undergrad. I actually had baked cookies for my class (you'd think I was 8 years old or something) because I'll probably never see any of them again!
What was your last day at school like; what did you do?
I ran every red light on the way to school, ramming those incompetent drivers in my way off the road. I took up two parking spaces, just because. I crossed four lanes of traffic, daring cars to hit me.
I went up to my teachers, and shook the hands of those who gave me A's, and punched the stomachs of those who gave me any less. I went up to women that scorned my attempts to pick them up, and pulled their hair and called them foul names.
I spat in the food in the cafeteria line, and hit someone upside the head with a tray. I went outside and turned over the University President's car, and set it on fire. I danced. Oh, how I danced.
Then I woke up, realized that I was late for the last day of school, said "Eh, what the hell," and went back to sleep.
Here's the honest story.....
Grad Night was at Disneyland. The day of school, the day before graduation ceremonies....Tolman Geffs asked me out to Grad Night. I had already made other plans with someone else.
I really liked and admired Tolman. I had hoped he would ask me long before. Then with graduation our lives went off into separate directions....he went to Berkeley, then to Harvard. I went to Cal Lutheran.
We exchanged some emails a few years ago, but never connected. I have always wondered what would happen if we got together again.
Dear Jean Luc....
Kind of like...."We'll Always Have Paris" non????
WW
Schools are a failure because they don't teach you how to learn but rather what to know, subsequently what we know is always changing so we keep falling behind.
But I like to say; "I don't think I know...I just know I'm thinking".
your humble servant,

Great blog...and wow, last day of school makes me feel old.
Interesting concept for fanfic. It's nice to see others using this blog format. Having had to go through the process of creating and maintaining a website for such things, I find this immensely easier. It also allows one to spend more time on actual writing.
Good luck. I'll check back here again.
I hated my secondary school, but got extremely emotional on our last day (to my great surprise). It was a moment I had waited for and looked forward to for so long -- but when it came, all I could think about was the friends I probably wouldn't see again. I think there was also a bit of trauma at suddenly having such a highly structured lifestyle ended just like that: and my being emotional probably came from a feeling of fear at the directionlessness of the future.
Nevertheless, it's a day I remember fondly, and being upset was infinitely better than being indifferent.
Dear Captain
I am from the USS the24s.blogspot.com and am currently dredging (cyber) space for intel regarding blog design. Please tell me how you managed to get the picture at the top on your heading? What is the code if you please.

Well, all you wussies, I spent MY last day of school saving the earth from KLINGONS and AUTOGRAPHED BEARS.
so true that "last days of school" does bring an end to an era. never really thought about it like that. but it ends one era and begins another, eh?
hope you had some great time away!
last day? um ... well i started to walk all over the school, taking photos into my mind. i sat on every bench i used to sit during my 4years there ... yeah ... i just tried to register everything in my mind . and it's there, now that 6 years are passed.

Good job.

tuesday times
HAHAHAH HAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAH
It strikes me that there is little reason to have a last day if you are planning to stay on for A-levels in any case, and i have to say that i can see no reason why any sane person would want to da such a thing, one of the most important lessons i learned in school was that i did not want to be there.
I have gotten MAD traffic from your place in the last few day, JLP. What's up? Have you been talking about me?? ;)
As for the last day of school...I always looked forward to it every year. It was always exciting. We rarely did much of anything but eat and talk and goof off. :)
I have no recollection of my last day of school. But I would like to say congrats on the "Blogs of Note" thing!
Congratulations on the "blogs of note" from me as well.
The last day of school is a thing of the past for me, but I remember it being a huge let down.
With all the build up you'd think there would be fireworks and piles of fun money thrust into your hand as you walked out. But, alas, it merely meant you left school early and drifted back to your real life for a time.
Congratulationss on making it to Blogs of Note list!
My last day of high school was great. We had a huge breakfast on the oval, played tricks on all the kids and teachers all day, and had a big party that afternoon. It was fun.
Enjoy your trip. See ya soon, Meow
Yeah, mines sucked, these kids we were hoping to hook up with gave us the run around and we were left without a party to cry at, oh to be popular ... enjoy your star dates!
Sash
I've also been getting loads of traffic from your site recently, JLP. What's up? :-D
On my last day of high school, we cut class and drove to the beach at Santa Cruz. I should have done that a lot more in high school...
Damn you corky!!!!!!!!
Congrats on your ascension to the blogging heavens..
My girlfriend's mate teaches at my old school. her boss is my old tutor.
Bizareness
I wish I could remember, but...i guess mine just wasn't that memorable, either!!
Ha ha! You got buzzed!
Yeah, this blog got, like, put on Blogger Buzz. You are now a blog of note. Live with it.
What I remember about the last day of school was that I wasn't going to be wearing that stinky uniform anymore. It was a freeing experince.
Very cool Captain....Blogs of Note!!!
Congrats!!!
Have a great day!!!
Never went to school. ;-)
Wonderful entries, everybody. Thanks for your kind thoughts about me being a 'Blogger Of Note'.
During the last day of school, we did jack-nothing and went of our own accord, GO US!! We celebrated the end of school at the nearest Macca's restaurant :P and congrats on getting in the Blogs of Note! As they say in Unreal Tournament 2004; Wicked Sick!
Hmm...well, my last day of school would have been in college and I don't remember it at all. My daughter is graduating 8th grade and we're sad to be leaving a school at which we've been for over 12 years. It feels like leaving home. Thanks for making me think.
Have a great day! Michele sent me!
I'd like to be apart of it all.
