TWQ: Live Concerts

This week, TWQ (The Weekend Question) looks at live concerts.

What are your three favourite live concerts that you've attended?

My answers are:

Judith Durham (Birmingham Symphony Hall). The former lead singer of The Seekers gave a stunning performance with many favourites and covers of classics from famous singers.

Nanci Griffith (Birmingham Symphony Hall). This singer really came into her own with many memorable songs.

Carmen (Covent Garden Opera House, London). This opera was not an individual performance, but a collective experience. Even if one is not an opera fan (I'm not), anyone would marvel at the sheer spectacle.

Now it's over to you...

It isn't music, but I saw Mikhail Barishnakov dance, I saw Louis Armstrong on my 2nd anniversary and I saw Dizzy Gillespie at a club in NYC.

Genesis - we can't dance tour, nose bled seats at the Skydome ( was awesome)

Peter gabriel - twice, 'nuff said.

Lawrence Gowan - Canadian performer who just rocks... doesn't matter what size of hall he plays in he rocks!

and I have to add
a 4th - Zeromancer ( Norwegeian band) ...in Hamburg excellent show!

Great question. Here goes...

1 - Bryan Adams very early in his career. It was 1982 and I was just a kid. But I convinced my parents that I should be allowed to see Loverboy in Montreal (please don't laugh...they were a top Canadian band at the time.) Some unknown soloist named Bryan Adams was opening up for them - and he blew them off the stage. His raw energy was inspiring, and I remember it to this day.

2 - Amy Sky - the Canadian singer/songwriter gave a small performance here in London about 2 years ago. We sat so close to the stage that she could have shaken our hands. I've been addicted to her music ever since.

3 - Cirque du Soleil - it isn't technically a concert. But the music by composers Rene Dupere and Benoit Dupras was - and still is - stunning. I'd go just to listen to them play again.

The Moody Blues - Youngstown, OH Nov 2003. I met John Lodge before the show.

Elvis Costello - Pittsburgh, PA July 2005. Got a lovely hug and my King Of America CD signed after that show :)

Happy weekend C'tain.

Yesh, Mick Jagger from the front row seats definitely one of the high points. Also, Loreena McKennitt was great live. A long ago La Traviata at the Met stands out in memory. Thanks for taking me back. I must confess a secret long-time love for you Jean-Luc.

Wow, your concert experience is a lot more cultured than mine!

My three favorites were probably Paul McCartney, David Bowie and Meatloaf.

My biggest disappointment was the Grateful Dead. I was so looking forward to the show, but the band seemed just tired of touring (you'd think they must have been by then, the early 90s.) Plus, I was a little altered by a substance I procured in the parking lot, and so I was off my game, too. I can't really say it was their fault it was a bad show for me...

Sorry I haven't been around much, life is intruding on my blogging time. Nothing bad, just crazy busy. I do think of you often, though :-)

Um
Does the Buddy Holly play count?

Anyhow I saw this 'mixed concert' once in England. I think at the time, it was a date, but I didn't realize it anyhow... a group of us went to this concert that featured a bunch of alternative underground rock at the time (early 90s) and I had a blast though mostly I soaked up the atmosphere, and held on tightly to the metal bar because people were sort of being throttled forward, yes throttled...

It was a blast. I bought some cheap knock off t shirt after, and do you know, I still have it, still wear it, love it and am sad that it has holes from wear :)

I have not being to a LIVE concert for AGES. i THINK the most recent one was Tom Cochran at the open air stage (Malcom Bowl) in Stanley Park (gee, i wonder how THAT survived the winds?)

Then there was Bette Midler, Rod Steward, and Great Big Sea. And a hundred years ago was Neil Diamond, actually probably my first BIG concert, which was FAB! We were right up front and the atmosphere was positively "electric"...oh and i nearly forgot KISS, when the year ended in 1999, that was a biggie, as we entered 2000; i went with my daughter when she was 14, that might have been the best except for all the drunks behind us who came much too close for comfort...

...sorry i can't pick my three faves, but IF i had seen Mick Jagger that would certainly have been at the top of the List!

cheers for now,
pj

I don't go to too many live concerts, as I don't like loud music, so I'd have to say that mine would be chamber music concerts.

I love concerts but I have to say my genre is much different.

My faves:
Elton John and Paul McCartney (yes they did a show together!)

Queensryche

Fleetwood Mac

I would love to see Manhiem Steamroller.

I'm sorry here. I may be weird but never in my life had I gone to a live concert. Never did like that much crowd.
Thanks for visiting

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'll swear I have done this already. Did you eat my comment? In brief James Brown, John Gielgud and Sir John Barbirolli.
