TWQ: Teary Movies

This week, we take a look into a certain type of movies...have your tissues ready....

Which movies have made you sniff and/or cry in the past?

My answer is:

It's A Wonderful Life: With a lot of people, the ending is lovely. This film was recently voted most inspiring movie of all time.

Beaches: A real teary ending, with 'Wind Beneath My Wings' adding to the tissues.

Random Harvest: The early Ronald Colman/Greer Garson classic has an ending to melt the coldest of hearts.

Sleepless In Seattle: A lovely ending that needs tissues as well.

Saving Private Ryan: Another inspiring movie, with a very teary ending.

Now it's over to you...

But before you go....

I have been tagged by Mimi and will answer these:

I AM: A son, friend, boyfiend, best friend, cousin, writer, blogger and worker.

I WANT: To have a life that I can feel happy and satisfied.

I WISH: That I had a job that I could feel that achieved something, and that my girlfriend and I lived on the same continent.

I HATE: The frustration of not being able to drive, and not being able to go on regular dates with my girlfriend.

I LOVE: The fact that I am still alive.

I MISS: My mother.

I FEAR: Being alone in the world.

I HEAR: Cars driving by in the distance.

I WONDER: At what the future will bring.

I REGRET: Not taking certain directions early in life.

I AM NOT: Able to drive; it keeps me stationery.

I DANCE: Badly.

I SING: To myself certain favourites like 'American Pie' and try to remember all the lyrics.

I CRY: Rarely, but a movie can bring it out.

I AM NOT ALWAYS : Right in what I how I do things, but I try to be so.

I MAKE WITH MY HANDS: E mails, letters, poems, photographs.

I WRITE: For a long time, especially for certain people.

I CONFUSE: A lot..probably myself more than anyone else!

I NEED: A kiss, mature cheese, a fast car that I could drive.

I SHOULD: Not worry so much, as this brings on stress.

I START: A new day today.

I FINISH: This meme, and hope you liked it.

I TAG: No one

morning Captain, here from Michele's. I would add "The Way We Were," about two people drawn to each other but unable to work it out.

I teared up while watching Cars. The story of the journey mattering more than the destination really got to me.

And I often enjoy watching so-called chick flicks with my wife. Maybe it's the love of the shared experience.

Life's too short to be bound by macho stereotypes.

Thanks for doing the tag, O Capitan! Love your answers...yeah, worrying is the hardest thing to overcome.

Teary stuff:

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Beaches

Riding in Cars with Boys

Steel Magnolias

A Wedding for Bella

Hi...from Michele's.
Teary movies:
Imitation of Life
Saving Private Ryan
Schindler's List
And at least 10 more, which I just can't remember right now

Michele sent me to your side of the Pond, Captain Picard. Hi!

4 huh?

The obvious ones for me are Gigi and the end of The African Queen. I can't think of any others at the moment but themes of everlasting love or noble sacrifice are what will work the tears.

I couldn't relate to you here as I have not seen any movie lately. Too much to do at home not time for movies.

Well, i cannot recall the last time a film made me cry.... ( we just don't seem to watch those kind of films....)although I get very tear jerky at
Apollo 13.

but I cried watching Grey's Anatomy, and Sex and the City has some very poignent episodes for me.

we don't see so many films here and sci-fi adventure dvds are not exactly tear jerkers...

Great answers dearest Captain.

My tearjearkers:

I cried buckets in Titanic
8 Seconds

And dadgum, there's one more that I saw this year that I cried darn hard in, bt for the life of me I can't remember it.

I actually find I cry more as I get older. As a kid I wasn't even moved to tears by ET, shame on me! The first film I can remember crying at was Miracle on 34th Street (the most recent version) when Kris Kringle was arrested. Waah!

The beginning of Annie makes me cry because Aileen Quinn has such a lovely voice, and that moment when she sings lingeringly (of her parents) "Betcha they're good, why shouldn't they be... Their only mistake was giving up me..." I never fail to burst into tears.

Also - The Railway Children. "Daddy!"

And Bright Eyes in Watership Down.

And my sister cried at the end of It's a Wonderful Life, too. I didn't but I agree with you that it's a wonderful movie! :) It really makes you think.

Ah, I love TWQ. Live long and prosper, Captain.

Anne of Green Gables, when Matthew dies.

Strangly enough, in that list I just gave you, I forgot to mention that It's A Wonderful Life is one of my favorite movies.

I sobbed at the end of Titanic.

LOVED some of the answers in your meme...you know which ones! Others were insightful :)

I'm with Helen Louise on Watership Down. I have to admit to ET, too, but the night I first saw it my dog had just died, so I had an excuse. Yeah, let's take the kids to see that cute new alien movie to take their minds off the dog. Oops.

Castaway always gets me when Helen Hunt tells Tom Hanks he's the love of her life, knowing she has to let him go.

Would you believe that Christopher Eccleston's Doctor Who got me a couple of times? Now there's some great sci-fi! Can't wait to see how David Tennant does. We're a season behind here in the States.

"The Lion King" did it for me; the scene where Simba tries to get his dad to wake up and finds he's dead.

"Ransom" - The scene whete Tom Mullen thinks his son is dead and breaks down completely. I lost it when I thought about it from a father's perspective.

I couldn't begin to name them all...I'm a softie when it comes to crying at movies.

Old Yeller. I am tearing up just thinking about it.

I tear up at any movie, either from laughing or sadness. I could just list the movies that I don't cry at because that's shorter than what I do cry at:

The Matrix
Any Hong Kong based movie (Although I'm Chinese, these films aren't that great in the emotional department)

and that's about it.

Jean-Luc Picard said...

You're listing some great movies there, together with some unusual ones that convey a deep emotion.

I'm with you on ALL the movies you mentioned and especially IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE...the moment that always makes me cry...when Jimmy Stweart has been shown all the telegrams and letters saying everryone is against him and he is distraught, spent, exhausted and almost in tears and he looks up at The Speaker and the wonderful Harry Carey Sr. gives him a little smile of encouragement...I'm crying right now thinking about it--it's such a dear dear moment...
Another movie that makes me cry everytime--and I've seen it 20 or more times and will I'm sure watch it 100 more times--"Finding Neverland"...truly touching in every way!

OldLady Of The Hills said...

I forgot to say I'm here from Michele, Jean-Luc...there are by the way about 500 hundred other films that can easily bring me to tears...and I love being moved by movies or plays or music...!

Michele sent me for the second time this weekend, Captain Picard.

This time I'll look over your meme. It certainly gives me a lot more insight than anything else I've ever read here. The driving and girlfriend parts especially. And it's nice to read something that makes one ponder, Jean-Luc. Good luck with getting that fast car that you can drive, and at least the mature cheese should be available if the car is currently elusive.

I agree with you about the ending of saving Private Ryan. Also the movie Old yeller, that one has to make everyone cry.

Here from Michele.

I cry at anything anywhere anytime. If it has feeling, I cry !! I even cry when reading a book, or a newspaper report !! I guess I'm pretty pathetic, really. I cried last night when my favorite house-mate was evicted from Aussie Big Brother (yes, I confess, I watch it ... am I a voyeur, who knows ??)
Have a great week, take care, Meow

Hmmm. Andre, and The Christmas Shoes. And I used to cry every single time I watched The Lion King. I don't anymore. Really.
And of course the Passion of the Christ...man that was powerful.

Dead Poet's Society... at the end when the boys take a stand for their "captain"

And Armaggedon, when the survivors land and are greeted by their families... reminds me of returning from deployment.
