TWQ: Film Of The Year 2007

For the TWQ (The Weekend Question), I'm asking you to think of the good films you've seen this year.

What do you estimate as being the best new film that you've seen this year? Add some runners-up if you wish.

My answers are:

The Lives Of Others (Das Leben Der Anderen) : This German made movie won best foreign language film at the Oscars, and is truly wonderful. About the East German Stasi who listen in to it's citizens. One of the best pieces of cinema there is, and highly recommended.

Runners up:

Elizabeth: The Golden Age: This excellent film, with Cate Blanchett reprising her role as Elizabeth I is excellent. She will be worthy of an oscar for it.

Pan's Labyrinth: This film was pipped for 'Best Foreign Language film' by 'The Lives Of Others'. A superb film set in World War Two that mixes reality and fantasy together to get a powerful combination.

1408: A super horror film, with good effects, about a man struggling to get out of his hotel room.

Now it's over to you...

Hi Jean-Luc, Michele sent me to see what the TWQ is this week...

No brainer! My best film of the year by miles (actually went to see it twice in one week!) is 'Across the Universe', a wonderful pictoral drama set to an anthology of Beatles music.
I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but the film combined with the music and the outstanding singers in the cast made for an amazing experience...

I'm afraid that I think that cinema has been very weak these last couple of years with very little that can be called exceptional.

I thoroughly enjoyed Pans Labyrinth however and for sheer entertainment value this year I have to say that I enjoyed Transformers. Not exceptional, just good fun.

Michele sent me to say hi.

I have to second that, Captain (as you already read on my blog!): Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others).

It's the most captivating movie I've seen this year - and none have come close so far!

Another favourite film of mine this year was Hot Fuzz - it was a brill film and good fun.
I love Simon Pegg - Run Fatboy Run was another brilliant film :-)
Simon Pegg has my vote all the way.

The only movies that I went to see this year were ones that the girls wanted to go like "Pirates of the Caribbean Part III", "Spiderman, Part III", "Hairspray", and "Enchanted". I didn't see a single "adult" type movie so it's hard for me to say what was a really good one.

I did hear that "1408" was quite excellent, though, so I may have to get it via rental and check it out. If you recommended it, then I'm sure it has to be good!

I really would like to see Elizabeth The Golden Age but I haven't seen any new movies this year!!Looks like it's time to put the kid to a babysitter!

I think I've only seen two films this year and I've loved them both.

Hairspray and Across The Universe

Gosh, I don't know the only movies I've seen this year have been from the video store - but, the best one I saw was THE QUEEN with Helen Mirren.

I wouldn't necceserily say this was the best movie of the year, but Knocked Up sure did ring true with my wife and I. We even saw it the night before giving birth to Paxton.

I actually thought this year was quite poor on the film front!

Thanks for your super nominations so far. The film industry has put out some varied entries.

Welcome to those who saw my Journal for the first time.

Finally! I've been trying 15 minutes to get this page to load! Anyhow, here from Michele's today Jean-Luc :D

I don't get out to the movies much and can probably give you a better list of what I want to see than what I have seen. But I did get to see Spiderman 3...and not only the best of the year, but the best of the Spidey movies. :)

Michele sent me back to say hi again.

I think I mentioned before how disappointing I think films have been on the whole for the lasy year or so. I enjoyed Elizabeth TGA but as I studied her reign in history I spent far too much time picking up on the historical inaccuracies!

I also really liked "Pan's Lab." but,
I think "Sweeny Todd" looks amazing even though i haven't seen it yet. "Hot Fuzz" was also pretty good. Most of the movies I saw this year were the non-award worthy "summer blockbuster" type.

For me it was Ratatouille. ;-)

Hi! Michele sent me.

I haven't seen that many movies this year, I think 3: Harry Potter, Enchanted and Beowulf. I can't really pick a best movie of those three.

I haven't seen many films in 07, but I agree with other here, there hasn't been much to see!

I did enjoy The Queen, but really just for Helen Mirren.

I enjoyed HPotter5.

I DO want to go see Atonement, though. that looks just up my ally!
