TWQ: Subjects To Avoid

This week, TWQ (The Weekend Question) asks what you avoid talking about with friends.

What subjects do you avoid discussing when meeting and out with your friends, as it might cause a row between them? Are there any you avoid with just one friend?

My answer is:

Politics are always top of the list to avoid. It is the most divisive of subjects, and no matter how much it is argued or discussed, people will never change their viewpoints, so it's best for all not to bring it up.

Now it's over to you...

Plus.....a Bonus Question:

What is the longest running situation comedy series on tv?

Clue: It's been going since 1973 and is still on now. No looking at the internet!

I'll reveal it in the comments when someone gets it, and in the next post.

Hmmm, the Simpsons have been on for 11 seasons, but that's not it. Satruday Night Live started in 1975 but that's a variety show.

No clue on the longest running comedy but definitely politics and religion are two subjects I try to avoid - especially politics and this election especially!

Politics.

The sitcom must be on your side of the pond, b/c I'm pretty sure nothing has been going on that long here.

Definitely politics. Things like pro-choice/pro-life are definite no-nos. Religion is off limits.

Most of my friends know not to speak ill of Elvis Costello or David Duchovny in my presence. :)

Longest running sitcom...that's still on... My gosh, jlp, I have absolutely no idea. It must be on in England and not the United States.

Well done, Adam and Celadon. Yes, the answer is 'Last Of The Summer Wine'. Made in Britain, it's a comedy about life in a small Yorkshire town. It has three or four main characters, quite old, plus quite a few surrounding characters.

There are always a core area of subjects to stay well clear of!

Now it's my turn to say "We don't get that show here"--much to my regret. On the question, I avoid politics--and in one instance, reincarnation. Yes, a woman on a first date asked me if I believed in reincarnation. I said I knew little about it. She went on to tell me she was a Ship Captain in another life and before that, an Egyptian Pharoah. I replied, "That explains the Cleopatra haircut!" It was decidedly down hill from there. ;)
