TWQ: Movie Quotes

This week, TWQ (The Weekend Question) looks at memorable lines from the movies:

What famous movie quotes do you like most?

My answers are:

Apart from those in 'Casablanca', which seem to be one memorable quote after another, others that come to mind are:

'Make him an offer he couldn't refuse' (The Godfather movies)

'Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore' (The Wizard Of Oz)

'What we've got here is failure to communicate' (Cool Hand Luke)

'Made it Ma! Top Of the world!' (White Heat)

Now it's over to you; what are YOUR favourites?

Ah, it's been too long since I popped that wretched-yet-addictive movie into my DVD player. It's time.

Dropped in from Michele's today, Captain. Glad to e-see you on this lovely day!

From Galaxy Quest "Does the rolling help?" and "Hold Please..."

From Serenity "Define interesting" and "She is starting to damage my calm" ( Although pretty much anything from this film often gets quoted in this house.

The Princess Bride "I do nothing that word means what you think it means..."

The Marix trilogy "There is no spoon" and "Everything that has a beginning has an end."

From Star Wars ESB: "The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am..."

truble is in this house we watch a lot of films over and over so the sound bytes get incorporated into daily conversation...there are an awful lot.

Oh man, Jonathan Lithgow was so funny in Buckaroo Bonzai. I think I've got to go watch that again.

Helen Louise said...

"Life is pain; anyone who says otherwise is selling something" - Westley in The Princess Bride

I also love "I won't let go Jack", mainly because it reminds me of the French and Saunders sketch - "I won't let go Jack... ooops!"

Oh, and in Star Trek Generations when Data says, "Shit!" Cracked me up. I was 11 at the time (ooh, showing my age). My sweet conscientious friend told me she wouldn't go see it if it had swearing in it.

Helen Louise said...

Oh, and "Don't you know that a man being rich is like a woman being pretty? You wouldn't marry a woman just because she's pretty, but my goodness, doesn't it help?" From Gentlemen prefer blondes. I love that film. So silly. "You only love him because he's poor" Heh.

Willy Wonka: Oh, well then you know all about it and what a terrible country it is. Nothing but desolate wastes and fierce beasts. And the poor little Oompa Loompas were so small and helpless, they would get gobbled up right and left. A Wangdoodle would eat ten of them for breakfast and think nothing of it. And so, I said, "Come and live with me in peace and safety, away from all the Wangdoodles and Hornswogglers and Snozzwangers and rotten Vermicious Knids."

Mr. Salt: Snozzwangers? Vermicious Knids? What kind of rubbish is that?

"Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"

Michele sent me to play again!

I can't believe I couldn't remember this quote yesterday. Not only is it one of my favourites, it's also, to me, one of the most memorable quotes in cinematic history.

"Rosebud."
