TWQ: Summer Reads

As autumn is now upon us, TWQ (The Weekend Question) looks back on what you enjoyed reading in the summer.

What books did you enjoy reading over the summer? List more than one if you did.

My answer was:

For me, the best book of the year was 'The Host' by Stephanie Mayer. This was a fabulous novel which tell of the earth that has been invaded by aliens named souls who implant themselves in humans then live the life of the human, taking over their mind. It is narrated mainly by Wanderer, a soul implanted into the body of Melanie Stryder. When Melanie's mind refuses to vanish, they work together and become friends as they strive to find the man Melanie loved and come across a colony of humans. A real page-turner.

Now it's over to you...

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volumes 1 and 2. The first "graphic novels" I've ever read and really enjoyed, with marvelous plot twists and employment of characters from various other novels and genres. Definitely not for children. A fast and fun read.

Well, I haven't read any from front to back, but I did reference "The Administrator's Guide to Linux," "Linux Pocket Guide," "Bash Shell," and "Ironport Administrator's Guide." Do those count?

As far as reading something from front to back, uh, no. I haven't had much time, I'm afraid. My daughter has been trying to get me to read a book called "Twilight" that apparently her and all her friends are all agog over. So I told her I would read it before the movie comes out at the end of this year. Just need to find the time :D

Jimmy Buffett's Swine Not amused me the most. I've read so many I couldn't begin to tell you the titles plus a lot of them were fluff novels

I read Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader to my daughter this summer. I'm currently reading one of the Boxcar Children books to her.

modern war bride, 'Twilight' happens to be a YA book by the same author I mentioned (Stephanie Meyer).

Jon, it looks like you are getting a lot of reading in!

The entire Twilight series. I didn't enjoy the last book. I wrote a review of it on my own blog.

I read Friday Night Knitting club by Kate Jacobs. I really enjoyed it until the last few chapters where I felt the end was totally unnecessary.

I squeezed in some comic book reading too--picking up the 1st 2 omnibus of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8. I have to say that Whedon does a great job telling a story in any media he chooses.

I re-read Ann Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy.

The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith is what I finished up my Summer reading with. The jury's still out if I liked it or not.

~Greetings Jean-Luc~

Well as I was on assignment I was not presented with vacation time to read but I did manage to make my way thru The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon (all three volumes). Plus I read and very much enjoyed the Sci-Fi novel The Risen Empire by Scott Westerfield which I believe many of your guests would enjoy.
