TWQ: TV Series Closures

As news of an awful tv series ending in 'The Sopranos' has been seen, TWQ (The Weekend Question) asks about conclusions for tv series.

What would you consider a good final episode for a particular tv series? Choose a serious ending, a funny one or completely weird. It can be an old series, or one that is still running. Choose more than one series if you wish.

My answers are:

Happy Days: Fonz grows a beard and gets a Harley Davidson, and calls everybody 'man'.

Twin Peaks: it is proved that aliens have landed and are trying to take over the town. Agent Cooper saves the day after eating his pie.

Lost: A hotel, named the Dharma Initiative is found on the island a few miles from where they are based. Everyone moves in there and lives happily every after.

24: Jack Bauer is in hospital, and Chloe O'Brien saves the world instead.

Now it's over to you...

I feel so deprived that I haven't seen the final series of 'The Sopranos'. It is the only series where I find myself agog at the end of the programme and wondering where the hour has gone.
I gave up on 'Lost' and 'Desperate Housewives' so feel ill equipped. However going back aways, I would like Ronnie Barker in 'Porridge'to be made a judge and Captain Manwaring in 'Dad's Army'to be made a general. Will that do? Michele says hi!

I think it would be hilarious, if in the final episode of Lost ... they all woke up and found out it was a dream.
Have a great weekend.
Take care, Meow

In retrospect, I loved The Sopranos finale (wrote about it).

Lost - from day one I thought that they all died in the plane crash and this is their personal hell.

Sex and the City: Carrie winds up with AIDEN!!!

Djeez. I will have to get back to you on this one. I watch too many series to take a pick. I can say that I imagined the Voyager ending differently, but how I would have liked it in stead is difficult to say.

I agree with Panthergirl about Sex and the City! I loved Aiden, and he was right for carrie.

The hotel on Lost is called "The Dharma Digs". I think they might have been killed on the crash and this is their version of hell in paradise!

I posted about this on my blog and even mentioned Voyager as a pretty good one.

The best ever was Newhart. Both funny and weird.

Great question, Captain. My favorite series ending was the underrated Everwood. It was a lushly written series about family and loss, and the writers were able to tie it together in the end with a formal dance scene that gave hope to the viewers that the characters would work out OK.

As upset as I was about losing the show, I was glad that it ended this way.

I missed the TWQ. I am always late to your parties. :(

So M.A.S.H. didn't make your cut? How sad, that was one of my favorite goodbye episodes. I still love you. ;)

I don't watch enough TV anymore to honestly care how any series end anymore.

I had been a faithful watcher of "Grey's Anatomy" up until the season finale this year when they just totally screwed every character up and didn't give a single character a happy prognosis for next season.

Never saw a single episode of "The Sopranos" so I have no idea what the hubbub was about there, either!

I would have to agree with Yellojkt that the best ending ever was "Newhart" - now that was good!

Days: Stephano dies for good, They get Claire back and get to keep her. Philip goes back to the war and they end the show before it gets any stupider...lol

Michele sent me :)

The best (seriously) was M*A*S*H, and the best (funny) was Newhart. But there are a lot of TV series mentioned here that I never watched, so thats just my opinion.

24: Jack becomes president and issues a public statement making it clear that no one will ever get full immunity, in writing, from the President, ever.

The Office: Michael and Dwight go to Vermont on vacation and somehow end up married.

I loved all your season finales! Good job!
I'm not feeling creative today bu there it goes...

Boston Legal. Denny Craine and Alan Shore leave Craine,Poole and Schmidt to start their own agency. Denny marries a little person and Alan swears off sex for a year.

The Sopranos: Tony and family move to Italy and hook up with his mob family over there. Taking this to a new level, Tony and family now have to worry about international laws. Carmella meets up wuth her old flame Furio. Carmella fears she is pregnant with Furios child. Can she hide this from Tony?

Only one comes to mind...

For the series finale of "American Idol" (wishful thinking I know); Paula admits that she's been stoned out of her mind since day one (because it's the only way she can cope), Simon admits that he is so mean and sarcastic because he has "father issues", Randy calls somebody "dog" and Seacrest comes out on air. Then the producers admit that no one, since Kelly Clarkson, has had even a quarter ounce of talent and they've just been doing the whole thing for payola.

But..

Friends.. Ros and Rachel get married and Joey finally stays with a woman as well.

You've got some good shows there. Newhart seems a popular choice.

oh - what an excellent idea.....

[thinks]

Boston Legal - Denny Crane elopes with Shirley Schmidt, Alan Shore is named in a paternity suit and Clarence marries Claire in his Clarice persona......

Bones - Booth goes back to a life in the military and, terribly upset, Tempe moves in on Jack and Angela joins a nunnery. Zack actually goes on a date - successfully!

Two of my very fave shows.....

Michele sent me to see the TWQ this weekend :-)

Back again to see you from Michele and have to stand by my original choice. The Sopranos was compared favourably, recently, to Wiil the Shake(name courtesy of Old Horsetail Snake)

At the end of Angel, Buffy should have shown up and kicked some serious butt, left an even bigger crater, and the world shouldn't have ended and the good guys shouldn't have died! (Even if they did go down fighting. Phooey.)

um the only tv shows and planet eart and I dont want either of those to end.

Michele sent me to say hello

This is a great idea....let me think.

I Love Lucy - The Mertz' win the lottery and move into a mansion in Beverly Hills and the Ricardo's buy the one next door and Ricky has a successful movie career.

Leave it to Beaver - Mrs. Cleaver finally tells Eddie to SHUT UP and puts on jeans and a t-shirt to clean house.

I know many of us would love to say goodbye to American Idol and I can't wait for the final episode. Ernie summed that one up nicely.

The Agency - ANY CONCLUSION AT ALL!

Has anyone seen this series? It aired for a season or two until about Summer 2003, where it aired a finale ending in a huge cliffhanger---and then the show was cancelled the following fall. The show was an amazing CIA thriller - and the cast and crew were actually allowed to film inside the CIA Headquarters....I think some part of that could have led to the reason they were cancelled.
