Firstly, my thanks to PureMood for creating the above new title graphic, and for showing me how to put it on. Thanks, PM!

The Weekend Question (TWQ) this week looks at those interruptions to our tv programmes:
What have been the best and worst tv adverts you have ever seen?
My answer is:
My favourite was the animated one in the mid-1970's, where a bear would suddenly break out into song and do an Elvis impression, singing the virtues of Schweppes tonic water to the tune of 'Teddy Bear'. There were female bears in the background doing back-up!
Another favourite are the ones for Cadbury's Smash (potato in a packet). Aliens would fall about laughing when they saw it.
The worst ones are patronising ones. Currently, there is one for Halifix Bank, where the animated figure uses a grating exaggerated accent to promote it. Do they think it will sell more?
There are also so many adverts promising 'financial help' that are all the same. They say 'as long as you are a homeowner'....in other words, so that we can take it off you if you can't pay.
A lot of adverts always portray men as incompetant idiots, with his wife as the smart one. An advert would never do it the other way around.
Now it's your turn....

Don't forget, the Enterprise Christmas Party Invite is on the post below. Check it out for details!

I cannot say I have a fovorite one and there are so many that offend me, I try to NOT look or listen..but there is ne that GRATES, beyond belief! The end of it, this guy says with a HUGE lilt in his voice...'....Or your Matress Is FRREEEEEE'...Oh Help Me!!!!
here from Michele's this morning...
I really like the Coke ads from the 70s--the people singing "I like to give the world a coke," from all races and nations... on a hill. It was filmed in Italy. I also like the kid who gives Mean Joe Green a coke and softens the football player's heart... I wrote an article once about the Coke ads--how they were promoting peace (I suppose a multi-national like Coke really benefits from the "peace dividend"). My most hated would probably be some of the beer commericals that are stupid and degrate people.
The starship Christmas party is intriguing. If I get time, I'll have to try my hand at it.
Fave ad ever is the Guiness advert with teh guy waiting at the bar for his beer to settle :o)

LOVE the new topper! PureMood did a GREAT job on it. :)
Love the new banner.
Can't think of a single commerecial I like right now, but I hate those stupid TP commercials with the bears, and every single one of the feminine hygeine ones. Blech.
And Captain - Don't you know a black hole when you see one? :-)
Hi Again...
Michele sent me i=one more time! Happy she did!
I don't know if it's my all-tme favorite but I'm really enjoying the recent Geico commercials featuring the cavemen. I guess this is probably only playing in the US. For those of you who haven't seen it then, the announcer says, ". . it's so easy even a caveman could do it." The camera pans around and there are some cavemen working on the crew. The get realy offended and drop their equipment and storm off. It's pretty funny. There are also some follow-up commercials.
That new header looks great! Conratulations.
That header rocks. And I didn't get a bounce-back on the story this time :)
There is a cell phone commercial that makes me cry--the dad is in the airport, and it looks like he's talking to his daughter on the seat next to him, but it is really a mobile call. Tears!
Not sure I have a favourite now but I used to love those Tesco adverts with Prunella Scales, especially "Here's your cheerful sole, madam!" They were less funny later on. There was also an awesome Weetabix advert with Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. I probably liked these adverts because I was under the age of 13 when they came out... Least favourite is probably all those loan and "have you had an accident that wasn't your fault"? type things. Especially the loan adverts with Carol Vorderman, as if she doesn't make enough cash already.
I don't get cable or satellite anymore...my all-time favorite had to be the Life Cereal with Mikey. "He likes it! Hey, Mikey!"
Least favorite are car adverts.
One I found funny....was a Superbowl commercial....It was a bird that went and would steal a corona from a near by outside pub....and then return and give it to it's owner....and the owner was like...he didn't know where he was getting them at...but they sure was good!!!....The Joe Boxer ones a few years ago at x-mas was pretty good!!!
Have a great day!!!
I love the header Capt...looks great!!!
I hate the insurance commericials where they are all about having minumum coverage for less. They are all so tacky!
PureMood has sent me two new headers when she realised the one she sent was the Enterprise E, not the D, where I set the Journal.
I liked the, "I'd like to give the world a coke" as well. The accidents are awful. I keep seeing them fall over! I laugh at the nearby man who is very slow to get up to help, as he is reading at the time!
The commercial that makes me crack up EVERY SINGLE TIME is the one where the dog thinks the new Toyota Lease is "new Leash". His "Ohhhhhhh" response to the owner correcting him is absolutely hilarious.
Right now, the one I hate the most is for the goddamn Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show, because of the grating jingle AND because it's on every freakin' minute.
Here by way of michele!!
Childhood best was, of course, Smash
although dancing guiness advert ranks up there too.
Worst is currently phones 4 U ads. I hate them!
Here from Michele's today
Ooo, I nearly forgot. The old Beattie (BT) ads were good too - especially "you've got an ology"
I love your new header, Jean-Luc!
The best ads are the ones for Aflac insurance and the worst ones are the car dealers, who think it is necessary to scream at us! UGH!

Hello from Michele's!!
Good Morning Jean-Luc..
Michele sent me this morning...Recently I think the advert I hated most was Our Governer's--Mr. Schwartzenegger...and I'm happy to say that ALL that money that he spent, WENT NOWHERE!!!
I think we all have the ones we love and the ones we love to hate. Some are so bad I have to turn the volume to 'mute'.
I just love the old superbowl commercial where the horses play football. New commercial I love: the Pepsi commercials "forever young" where they flash back...one wishes he had his old "Flock of Seagulls" hair and the other "Kicks it old style" break dancing to MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This". They always crack me up!
Hey Jean Luc,
The bear was on the Cresta fizzy pop (soda) ad
Baybee I will be
You ever luvvin fan
give me the drink, I really love
A bottle or a can
What can it be
Its Frothy man
I don' wanna drink no ocean,
'cos man thats fat to rough,
but when it comes to CRESTA
here's one bear that just can't
get enouououh!!
(sorry elvis!!)
