TWQ: TV Series Romances

This week, TWQ (The Weekend Question) takes a look at those romances that have always existed between characters in comedy and drama series in television.

What romances can you recall, unfulfilled or otherwise, can you recall on television between characters? List as many as you like.

My answers are:

Jack O'Neill and Samantha Carter (Stargate SG1)
Richie Cunningham and Lori Beth (Happy Days)
Del Boy Trotter and Raquel Turner (Only Fools & Horses)
David Addison and Maddie Hayes (Moonlighting)
Mork and Mindy (Mork and Mindy)
Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle (CSI)

and to save anyone adding....

Jean-Luc Picard and Beverly Crusher (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

Now it's over to you...

  7. Nothing comes to mind right now, but the reason all of these loves are unfulfilled is that the shows usually tank as soon as the two characters get together. There's a certain tension in the anticipation that's completely lost as soon as they become a couple.

Dropped by from Michele's to say hi on this lovely Saturday!

  8. I don't think you can beat Sybil and Basil Fawlty.
And what a shame the Vicar of Dibley remained single.

  9. Janeway and Chakotay (spelling?) - Voyager

    Willow and Tara - Buffy
    Willow and Xander - Buffy
    Spyke and Drusilla - Buffy

    Angel and Cordelia - Angel

    Fred and Wesley - Angel

Buffy and Angel are total copouts, I admit, but lost of relationship angst!

    Dr. Who and Rose (duh)

Jack and everyone on his team (Torchwood) I mean, seriously....

Sadly, I can't remember any television from when I was younger, even though I'm sure I watched a lot of it!

    Miss Kitty and Sheriff Dillon.

And can anyone figure out why in all the years of "Bonanza" not one of the men could catch a woman? I mean, I kind of understand about ole Hoss.

  12. Hi, I agree with Carmi. It's the angst element that makes for a good story, the characters can only ever get together for a happy ending.

I think everyone else here has covered any other ones I cna think of!

    Michele sent me back!

  13. One that stuck in my mind was in 'Portrait of a Lady' Henry James?
She is at his bed-side - he's dying - and he says:
'You have been adored - adored...'
It was the chap who played 'Young Dr Kildare.'
    Michele sent me over:)

Niles Crane and Daphne Moon (Frasier) I should have added.

  19. John Crighton and Aeryn Sun (Farscape)

Vala Mal Doran and Daniel Jackson (SG1)

Both female characters played by Claudia Black, she rules! But I found those relationships fun to watch. Though nothing compares to John and Aeryn, romantically-wise...

After five years together, Regis and Kelly are really starting to give off heat. In this case, familiarity seems to be breeding romance!

  25. My favourite is definitely Dr Zhivago, I also like Gone with the Wind and Brief Encounters. They all have sad endings though.
