TWQ:TV Intros

This week, TWQ (The Weekend Question) asks about the start to some tv programmes.

Which tv programme intros do you like the most?

My answers are:

1: The Prisoner: This, without doubt, is by far the best of all, with an extra-long intro what goes on for some time. A classic!

2: CSI: Miami: The wonderful song 'Won't Get Fooled Again' by The Who launches the show off.

3: The Beverly Hillbillies: A great song starts this off, with the picture of Granny in her rocking chair on top of the Clampett car!

4: Washington: Behind Closed Doors: This mini-series had a great driving beat as it started.

Now it's over to you...

  1. Definitely the theme tune to "Monk": "It's a jungle out there" - it has such an upbeat catchy tune to go with the tongue-in-cheek depressing lyrics

  2. Barney Miller, that bass is classic.
Simpsons, aaaaaaaaaahhhh the Simpsons... My daughter used to dance to that when she was uder two.
NYPD Blue was pretty good too. The drum beat and all of the quick images of NY.

  3. From Michele!
I loved Dick Van Dyke...song and when he trips over the ottoman! Also The Three Stooges...love that music and kibbitzing around.

  4. I agree with you on CSI Miami. I'll add the USA dramady, Psych and Monk and well...The Monkees!

The Prisoner intro is a favourite of mine aswell, especially as I only live about an hour or so from 'The Village'.

The original 'comic strip' intro to Grange Hill was a classic, as were most of the Dr. Who intros.

  6. And Hiya - today Michele sent me.

I'm not very good at watching whole series of anything and I assume the shows with different dramatised beginnings each week don't count?

Yes still Sopranos as a standard startup. The old Miami Vice has some retro quality in the fast editing at the start.

And the Prisoner, as you say is good, in that it retells the whole episode one in the credits.

  7. That cello bit in the intro for Angel. We don't use cellos enough. Especially not with lots of electric guitar immediately after.

    Brilliant.

  8. Knight Rider
    The Equalizer

  9. Aww, I nearly forgot about the Prisoner. It was classic -- still like watching it when they play marathons.

There was a show in the mid '80s call The Equalizer that was written by Stuart Copeland (The Police) that I really love.

I like "Who Are You" by The Who with CSI: Las Vegas.

    :D

The Facts of Life, because it was my all-time favorite show as a kid.

Also, The Jeffersons. Just a rockin' song!!! :-)

  13. Blue Murder, a canadian police show, had a spanking theme tune.

Strictly Come Dancing and Dr Who. Oh and Neighbours, always puts a smile on my face, it sounds so cheerful.

  15. Sex and the City
    Six Feet Under
Grey's Anatomy (when they used to show it, although I'd rather have 3 more minutes of story)

I love the titles for Ugly Betty because they use classic French film style screens. Great stuff.

    As for old shows:
    Mission:Impossible is a classic

Of those intros I only know the Beverly Hillbillies.

  21. And I have to add Star Trek: Enterprise to my list. Actually, it's probably at the top of the list, because I always felt as though if I didn't get to see the intro, it didn't matter if I watched the episode or not. I LOVE that intro....the song, the collage of ships, everything.

  22. Quite a few shows have cropped up a few times in your choices. I must admit, I've never seen 'Monk'.

Another favourite was the mirror universe start for the two part Enterprise story 'Through A Mirror Darkly'.

  23. The Prisoner is a great choice! I'm going for oldies too. The 70s detective show Vandervalk had a great theme. The Avengers had a fantastic intro and wonderful title sequence, very arch. And how many times did I stay up to see the intro to The Sweeney or Starsky & Hutch, then get sent to bed...
The Red Hand Gang had the kids humming along and jumping on trampolines. And the demented flute intro to the kids show Bod.

  24. I have to agree with you on the Beverly Hillbillys theme and Rod serling starting the old Twilight zone was good and the music to the old Battlestar Galactica was good.

Yes, the Prisoner had a great entry. I always liked the Man from U.N.C.L.E. theme and the Get Smart theme songs as well.

  27. Ooh, tough question. I guess I'd say: "The Office," "Gilmore Girls," "Grey's Anatomy" and "My Name is Earl." But mostly because those are some of my fave shows.

Michele sent me today. Hope you're having a great weekend!

  30. Jean-Luc, I love the music for the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Big Love, and all the other shows on HBO, as well as Survivor. What a good question!

  31. Hmmmm, I've never thought about it much. I like the opening to Weeds, because I like that song. And I like the opening to Lost, because it's short, and to the point. It's adds that little bit of mysterious feeling, and gets right back to the show. Here via Michele's!

  32. I never watched One Day at a Time much, but admit to loving the goofy theme song.

Also love the Sopranos (that's my hood, yo!)

  38. One of my favourites would have to be good old Gilligans Island ... that song just sticks in my brain. And Happy Days, too. More recent ones would be Six Feet Under and Survivor.
    Great question.
    Have a wonderful week.
    Take care, Meow
