TWQ: Annoying Phrases And Cliches

This week, TWQ (The Weekend Question) asks about those phrases that annoy you.

What irritating phrases and cliches really annoy you?

My answers are:

1: To be honest.

2: Let's face it.

3: At the end of the day.

(or even worse)

4: All three of the above coming one after the other.

Now it's over to you...

  3. Oh probably those aren't quite cliches - more irritating phrases.

  5. Working in the web hosting and design business, I get especially tired of the following:

-- My email isn't working (my least favorite).
-- I made some changes to my site and now it's broken. Can you take a look at my code? (normally they want me to do it for free).
-- I just want a simple, 5-page site - can you get that done by tomorrow?

And, to be honest, let's face it, at the end of the day, I'm just freaking tired of all the stupid people. ;D

    "Can I just say?"

If you're going to say whatever it is that you want to say anyway, why ask first?

Unfortunately I'm a frequent user of "To be honest.", but only in answers to work-related questions.

  9. The most irritating:

"At the present time we are experiencing a high call volume than usual"

    which translates:

we don't have enough damn help on hand to answer the damn phone!

  15. * You know (over and over again.)

    *Whatever

    * I'll take care of that. (If this is said by anyone in the customer service industry, it usually means nothing will be done.) Grrr....

  20. 1. Whatever
    2. Get over it.
    3. I could care less (which is more of a grammatical error as the person really should be saying "I couldn't care less" meaning you've reached the bottom as far as caring - this one drives me nuts!)
